Using Proper Fitness Marketing to Fill Your Power Niche
By Chris Fernandez | Comments 0
Maximizing your personal training marketing power niche and ratcheting your income to a much higher level as a personal trainer is all about getting clients to pay top-dollar for your services by finding a need and filling it.
Now I’m not just talking about any need mind you – but a specific need – one that no one else is filling.
As I’ve talked about frequently, the key to being able to charge much higher rates – justifiably so for those that are worried about raising your rates without giving your clients something special in return – is to not expand your focus, but rather narrow it further than you ever have done before.
In other words, you need to focus your personal training marketing on meeting that one special need that clients are looking for – the ones you most want to train and work with – and once you do that, you’ll quickly see how potential clients will gladly pay you top-dollar for your training.
So how does this relate to you and your power niche? Simple.
The group of clients who will pay a premium to have their specific needs met is your personal training marketing niche.
On top of that, odds are it’s also your favorite type of client to train and one with which you relate to the best and have the most experience helping.
This creates a win-win scenario whereby the client is ecstatic that they found you, and you in turn are training exactly the type of client you most identify with and are most passionate about training.
Defining Your Power Niche
Think about the last restaurant where you ate a meal. What attracted you to that specific restaurant? Did you need something fast? Close by? Did you want a thick steak or a salad?
Some need or desire made you choose that particular restaurant. Restaurants that specialize in filling a particular need are serving a niche market.
The same idea applies to us as personal trainers and specifically, to your personal trainer marketing when you are speaking directly to someone looking for what you have to offer.
Identifying people who have a special need (a niche market) and telling them how you fill that need should be the thrust of your fitness marketing message.
Doing that one simple thing (for instance specializing in bodybuilding competition prep) is the best way to start netting premium personal training dollars. Once you begin to identify and understand niche markets, you can drill down and find the one special niche that yields you the most money for the least amount of work.

This is your power niche.
Oh, and the reason it yields you the most amount of money for the least amount of work?
That’s because you love doing it, are an expert in that field and have already built up the infrastructure to serve clients in your niche like nobody else.
Can you think of a niche right now that perhaps you aren’t filling that you could or should be?
While beyond the scope of this post, you should download my free fitness marketing e-book “The 5-Lies Stopping You from Charging Over $5,000 Per Client, Per Month” where I go into much greater detail about defining and then learning how to market your personal training services to accomplish this.
Targeting Your Power Niche
Once you discover your power niche, everything in your fitness marketing plan, from your business cards to your online marketing message should be designed to attract and capture that niche.
Even seemingly small things, like your online Craigslist or Google ads, play a huge part in your overall fitness trainer marketing message and the types of clients you attract into your business.
Creating an effective personal training marketing plan is not hard. It’s just a matter of finding and defining your niche and then knowing how to implement everything into one cohesive plan of action to get the exact type of client you want to train, which in turn will help yield you the highest return on your time.
That’s one of the reasons I created this website.
There is a lot of money being left on the table by all sorts of wonderful personal trainers just like you, because of the simple fact that you weren’t speaking or catering to, your power niche!
In other blog posts and in my fitness marketing e-book, I’ll show you, step-by-step, how to select and refine your fitness marketing power niche and how to dominate that segment of the health and fitness industry.
Think of it this way: If your client is looking for someone who specializes in working with older adults, do you think they would be willing to spend way more money on a trainer that did EXACTLY what they wanted?
